The owner's rule for the kernel-smlib branch: the kernel runs exact
operations and refuses what it cannot do exactly; sizes, standards tables,
defaults, pre-checks and conveniences live in the engine and doc. Threads
as the example: a helical sweep in the kernel, while the size table, the
off-size refusal and multi-start threads are sugar.
