AGENTS.md drops from 16.8k to 3.7k characters: the hard rules, each naming the
check that enforces it, and a table of what to read for each kind of work.
The rest moves into eleven new skills; the five existing ones stay.
cargo xtask skills fails when AGENTS.md or a SKILL.md cites a path, an xtask
command or a skill that does not exist, when the router table and skills/
disagree, or when the router or a new skill grows past its size cap. It runs
in cargo xtask ci and the repository checks job.

* docs: two notes for agents and contributors (the gate's working tree, and linking a picture)
* docs: how to show a picture without attaching it
The reviewer asked for the pictures to be attached to the PR (or in a gist),
not hosted on a branch of a fork, so the note no longer teaches the branch
trick.
* docs: say how to attach a picture, and what a gist is for
The review of this pull request pointed at two things in the note on
evidence:
- Attaching works in the browser for anyone who can comment: drag the
file into the comment. The limit is the command-line agent, whose
upload needs write access to this repository. Say that, instead of
claiming that a contributor without write access cannot attach a file.
- A gist suits a log or another text file; it does not render a picture
inline. Say what it is for, so nobody hits that dead end.
The note in AGENTS.md about the gate reading the working tree is
unchanged.
"Start every session here" sent readers to plan/STATUS.md,
plan/execution-plan.md, plan/architecture.md and
plan/adr/0001-geometry-kernel.md. plan/ is gitignored, so nobody who
clones the repository has those files.
Point the steps at what ships instead: ROADMAP.md, CONTRIBUTING.md's
"Where help is wanted most", "How the code is laid out" and "Kernel
work is paused" sections, docs/architecture.md, the help wanted, good
first issue and needs-triage labels, and the licence rules with
deny.toml and cargo xtask licences --check.

* Every new command comes with input and output schemas
A test fails for a command without a contract or an output type, unless it is a planned!
placeholder or listed in schema/unconverted.txt, which holds the 400 commands that predate
the rule and only shrinks: the test also fails when a listed command has its schemas, when
the list names a command that doesn't exist, or when it isn't sorted.
`checked!` now takes only the command's id and checks the contract that id publishes
(`run_checked_as`), so the contract enforced is always the one described. Another test runs
every command that has a contract in strict with an unknown key, so a contract is never
published without `checked!`, under the command's own id, enforcing it.
A new book page, Command schemas, explains how to write a contract and a reply type, the
tests to add, the shared field types and how to add one, with a checklist; the failure
messages point to it. "Adding a command", CONTRIBUTING.md and AGENTS.md now include the
schemas, and the MCP tool description and docs/mcp.md no longer list the converted commands.

* Command schemas guide: what participants and targets do, checking the evaluation, warning-free replies
- `participants` changes the result for some features and nothing for others; where it and
another key override each other, or where it has no effect, say so in that key's
description or in the summary.
- The example primitive's `targets` default to every body in the feature's component, not the
bodies it meets; they're ignored when `participants` lists bodies.
- Check what each value does where the feature is evaluated, not only how the handler reads it.
- A reply test runs every form in Warn and checks for no `param_warnings` (Strict for a reply
that isn't an object).

* List the 11 commands added on main since: browser folding, standard views, parameter sweep, path flange
browser.collapse_all, browser.expand_all, inspect.parameter_sweep, sheet.path_flange and the

without schemas; the gate flags them, as intended. 457 commands listed.

* Schema rule warns instead of failing for now
A command without input and output schemas prints a warning listing it
(test output and a CI annotation). SCHEMA_RULE_STRICT in coverage_tests.rs
(or SOLIDCRAFT_SCHEMA_RULE_STRICT=1) makes it fail again. Docs say "should,
and will become required".

The taskbar asks a window for its icon once, when the window appears. eframe
sets the icon while the window is still hidden and shows it after the first
frame; when that frame is slow (safe mode's software renderer) or startup kept
the UI thread busy long enough for Windows to mark the window as not
responding (building the viewport pipelines), the request isn't answered in
time, the taskbar falls back to the window class's icon, and winit's class has
none: the button showed Windows' generic icon for as long as the window was
open.
Give the class the exe's embedded icon (resource 1) before the window is shown.

* 3D mouse: find devices on Windows without asking every HID device for its strings (#2614)
On Windows the 3D mouse reader rescanned every two seconds while no 3D
mouse was plugged in, with hidapi's refresh_devices(). hidapi's Windows
enumeration opens every HID interface and reads its serial number,
manufacturer and product strings: on USB, three control requests to
every keyboard, mouse and touchscreen, forever, on a machine without a
3D mouse. That fits the report of an idle machine whose USB keyboard
drops off and returns and whose cursor jumps.
Windows now asks Plug and Play which present HID interfaces are
multi-axis controllers (hardware ID HID_DEVICE_UP:0001_U:0008), which
sends nothing to any device, and opens only those with open_path().
hidapi's own discovery is turned off before the reader makes its one
context, so making it touches no device either. macOS keeps hidapi's
enumeration (IOKit's registry); Linux is unchanged.

From the review: the guidance said a pull request's run tests it merged with the latest main,
which is only main as of that run; a break between two pull requests that land close together
shows up in main's own run. It also forbade rebasing. Now: don't push only to catch up; when you
push a change anyway or GitHub reports a conflict, rebase onto main (--force-with-lease on your
own branch) or merge it in once.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QWhMwdqJYQKQq8RCLSL1LT
The guidance told contributors and agents to keep their branch current with every upstream merge
and to re-run CI after integrating. Over three days that meant 1,241 merges of main into pull
requests and 730 re-runs: about 45,000 of 79,800 ci runner-minutes, on runners that capped how
fast everyone's checks ran. CI already tests each pull request merged with the latest main, and
a real failure fails again on the same commit. Now: merge main in only when GitHub reports a
conflict, re-run only a job runner trouble cancelled, and maintainers add approved-for-ci when a
pull request is ready to merge and merge approved ones in groups by area.

A PR that saves something new adds crates/doc/src/format/pending/<name>.rs (a note, and an upgrade step if older designs must be rewritten). The build writes the next format number while changes are pending and lists them in format_pending; scripts/fold-format-pending.sh fixes them as v<N>/ at release time. Formats 23 and 24 move into v23/ and v24/.

* Render preview uses the shared camera navigation
The Render workspace's product preview had its own hard-coded camera
controls. Camera input now lives in one component, navigation::handle,
which the modelling viewport and the Render preview both call (NavCaps:
orbit, pick). Render gets the navigation preset, Orbit around, zoom to the
cursor, the middle double-click and the axis view or navigation cube.
Flat pages can call it with orbit off. A test rejects pages that read the
wheel or move the camera themselves.

* Windows: resize border from the first frame, DPI-correct window moves (#1381)
- The egui resize zones were laid out after the start page's early return, so a launch without
a design had no resize edges at all. They now run on every page.
- Windows: the main window's procedure answers WM_NCHITTEST with the resize edges and corners,
Windows' own border width at the window's DPI (8 px at 100 %), so the OS shows its resize
cursors and runs its own resize (snap included) from the first message; no egui zones there.
- Windows: WM_GETDPISCALEDSIZE returns the size winit then applies (same logical size), so the
rect the OS suggests while the title bar is dragged onto a monitor with another scale is the
rect the window gets.
- Zone sizes and hit test shared in titlebar.rs and unit-tested; Windows CI checks the hit test
right after launch and a real edge drag.

A crash inside a graphics driver left only "an unclean exit between
commands": no backtrace, no module, no hint that it was at startup.
- The crash journal now keeps the startup step the app is in (window,
graphics instance, surface, adapter request, adapter chosen, device
creation, renderer and viewport shader compiles, surface configure,
first frame and its present, running) and the renderer as soon as the
adapter is picked. egui-wgpu tells the app about its steps through a
small hook. An unclean exit before the first frame names the step.
- Windows: an unhandled-exception filter (src/native_crash.rs, the one
Windows-only module allowed unsafe) writes the exception code, the
faulting module and offset, and a minidump next to the journal; the
next start puts them into the report.
- The Windows CI job runs a child that faults on purpose and checks the
report.

macOS hands files opened from Finder, the Dock or open -a to the application delegate's application:openURLs:, which winit's delegate lacks, so AppKit showed "SolidCraft cannot open files in the SolidCraft design format". open_documents adds that method to the delegate's class before launch finishes and queues the paths for the UI, which opens them like files named on the command line.
This is the one place SolidCraft's own code uses unsafe: the app crate denies unsafe_code instead of forbidding it, and only the two macOS-only functions in open_documents.rs allow it, with the reason documented there and in AGENTS.md. Adapted from VectorCraft (see ATTRIBUTION.md).
Closes#997.
solidcraft --control PORT writes a random per-launch token to a user-only file (<data>/control/PORT.token; 0700/0600 on Unix, icacls on Windows; SOLIDCRAFT_CONTROL_TOKEN overrides) and refuses any connection whose first request lacks it. mcp --connect, the demo and packaging smoke clients send it. MCP execute/batch/open/save/export/screenshot are annotated destructive and open-world, new_design destructive. Docs: control-protocol.md, mcp.md, AGENTS.md, pending release note in releasing.md.

Every panic (in a command, in the kernel, anywhere else) and every unclean
exit (abort, stack overflow, kill) leaves a report in a local crash folder:
message, file:line, a trimmed backtrace, version, commit, system and renderer,
the command and recent commands, and when possible the design and replay.json
that reproduce it (solvecraft-cli crashes replay <id>).
- Cost: nothing until the app installs the hook (tests, CLI and web never
do); then one small journal line per top-level command of the design on
screen, taken back with a truncate when the command changed nothing.
- Unclean exits: each run holds a lock on its journal; a journal nobody holds
at the next start belongs to an app that died. Autosaves restart the
journal from the autosaved design.
- Bounded: a crash's signature (place + message, numbers ignored) is counted,
not rewritten; at most 5 new reports per run, 20 reports, 50 MB, 90 days;
recovered kernel panics are pruned first.
- Agents: diagnostics.crash_reports / crash_report / crash_reports.clear
commands, the MCP crash_reports tool, solvecraft-cli crashes, solvecraft
--crash-log; diagnostics.crash_test (with SOLVECRAFT_CRASH_TEST) checks it.
- People: the Crash Reports window opens after a crash (Help > Crash
Reports…) with a reviewed issue draft per report; nothing is sent.
- Release builds keep line tables for file:line in backtraces.
Tests: child processes that really panic in a command, in the kernel, on a
thread, and abort; dedup counts, limits, hostile folders, journal parsing,
the UI window and draft, the MCP tool. docs/crash-reports.md.

* Release under the SolidCraft name: binaries, assets and installers
The desktop binary is now `solidcraft` and the CLI `solidcraft-cli` (the two app packages
are renamed; their folders move with the rest of the rename later). Every release asset is
named solidcraft-<ver>-… / SolidCraft-<ver>-windows-x64.exe, and the installers show the
SolidCraft product name.
Kept so existing installs keep updating (docs/compatibility.md):
- `solvecraft-cli` alias binary in every package, forwarding to solidcraft-cli with a
deprecation note on stderr (tests/legacy_alias.rs).
- Linux app ID ai.storyteller.solvecraft (Flatpak ID, desktop entry, Wayland app_id).
- MSI UpgradeCode, so the MSI upgrades in place.
- deb Replaces/Conflicts/Provides and rpm Obsoletes/Provides solvecraft.
- An old-named .zsync copy so earlier AppImages find updates; a legacy .flatpakrepo copy.
- .solvecraft file associations; SOLVECRAFT_* fallbacks in the packaging scripts.

- Remove xtask/data/fusion-catalog.tsv and xtask/data/fusion-ids.tsv.
- Remove the legacy command-id table (crates/engine/src/legacy_ids.rs) and its use in

dotted ids name commands; any other id is an unknown command.
- Boundary Fill's id becomes solid.boundary_fill.
- Replace the parity report with SolidCraft's own feature checklist: `cargo xtask features`
writes docs/features.md from the command registry.
- docs/oracle.md, docs/step-import.md (corpus section) and docs/iges-import.md: reference
results are being rebuilt on analytic and open-source (FreeCAD) values; see #292.
`cargo xtask oracle` and `cargo xtask step-corpus [--iges]` write these placeholders.
- AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, README.md, ROADMAP.md and the book describe
SolidCraft as independent, with reference tests on analytic values and open-source tools,
and agents do not drive or extract data from commercial CAD products.

The oracle no longer uses Fusion measurements. tests/oracle/<case>/ now holds the 76 recipes
(our own format, with recorded measurements and tool-specific fields removed) and an
expected.json per case:
- 55 analytic cases: closed-form values from tools/oracle-analytic/ (stdlib Python, formulas
in each case's "method").
- 21 FreeCAD cases: the same recipe built with FreeCAD's public scripting API by
tools/freecad-oracle/ (an external program, not a dependency), with a reference.stl for 20.
solvecraft-cli oracle compares body count, volume, area, centre of mass, bbox, face counts
where the geometry fixes them, and, against reference.stl, the sampled Hausdorff distance and
the principal moments (spatial.rs from #301). cargo xtask oracle reads tests/oracle, writes
docs/oracle.md with the source of each value, and supports known_failure marks for tracked
bugs. CI runs it on every PR; a manual workflow regenerates the FreeCAD values. step-corpus,
seam normalisation and the through-all emulation, which only existed to compare with Fusion,
are removed.
75/76 pass; 75-sm-bracket-holes is a known failure (#296).

Build drafts from explicit workspace versions, preserve dry runs, and document
agent verification and publication. Reject existing release tags and published
versions instead of publishing on every development push.
The old ids live only in crates/engine/src/legacy_ids.rs (the legacy migration table): find_command maps them, so old scripts, recipes and control calls keep working, and saved shortcuts, recent and pinned commands are migrated on load (designs store no command ids). Parity maps the observed catalog ids to ours through xtask/data/fusion-ids.tsv. The agent rule now reads: our own dotted id, never another product's. Cargo.toml's repository points at github.com/bherbruck/solvecraft.
