The slow steps waited on the clock (6 s sleeps, a 1 s timer, a 30 s cap), so on a busy runner a launch could outlast them and time out at 240 s. The server now holds a response until the test releases it, and the test waits on events: - overlapping downloads: build v5's own files are held; files both builds share (index.html, names no build changes) are served, since the browser queues a request behind an in-flight one for the same URL. The held files are released once v6 has started. - fail-fast step: the other files wait until the test has seen them asked for. - update in another tab: the other tab updates once the launch is waiting for build.json, and the browser's own sw.js check waits for the same moment. - hung requests no longer give up after 20 s.
