The monitors flattened every frame over black before showing it, so the
transparent areas of a title, graphic or clip with an alpha channel
showed as black, and Display Mode > Alpha showed white everywhere. The
frame cache now keeps each pixel's alpha, with the same color bytes as
before, and texture_for still uploads frames opaque.
Transparency Grid, in View and in each monitor's wrench menu, paints a
white and #cccccc checkerboard of 8 pt squares behind the picture and
uploads the frame with its alpha, so the grid shows through. It is off
by default, and each monitor keeps its own setting. A magnified picture
paints only the squares in view, and in Comparison View the reference
frame gets the grid too. The GPU compositor's output and the render
previews are opaque, so while the grid is on the Program monitor and
the reference frame render the sequence live on the CPU
(Target::SequenceLive). Display Mode > Alpha now shows the frame's
alpha, and the Program monitor renders the sequence live for it too,
also in ranges that have a render preview.
The command is view.transparencyGrid; like the other view toggles it
takes {"enabled": bool} and {"monitor": "program"|"source"}, and the
setting is transparency_grid in ui.inspect and ui.set.
Timeline Display Settings now has a Show Duplicate Frame Markers check
box. When it is on, a video clip that shows a media frame another video
clip of the same sequence also shows gets a colored stripe along its
bottom under that frame. Clips are compared by the media frame each one
shows at each frame of the sequence, so speed changes and reversed clips
are compared by the frames they show. Each master clip with duplicate
frames gets one of ten colors in the order those master clips first
appear in the sequence, and the tenth color is reused after that. A
subclip counts as its master clip. Clips of still images, generators,
nested sequences, graphics and adjustment layers, frame holds and clips
whose Time Remapping speed has keyframes are not compared.
The Timeline works the markers out again only after the project changes,
draws only the stripes in view, and keeps them inside a clip while a
trim drag shortens it.
sequence.showDuplicateFrameMarkers turns the markers on and off, and the
sequence.duplicateFrames query lists each marked clip with its color and
timeline ranges.
In a selected transition's own timeline in Effect Controls, the cut line
over the transition can now be dragged. While it is dragged, the clips
and the transition are drawn where the rolling edit would put them, with
the same limits as `timeline.roll`. On release one rolling edit moves
the cut, so the clips' In and Out points change and the sequence keeps
its length. The ends of the transition still resize it, and the rest of
it still slides it.
A rolling edit now stops where the transition on its cut would leave
one of its two clips. When a ripple trim, a slide or a ripple speed
change moves a cut far enough that the transition on it would leave its
two clips, the transition is moved back within them, shortened when the
clips are now shorter than it, and its stored alignment is updated.
Pressing Escape during an active drag in the Timeline cancels the operation without committing changes on mouse release. For ruler scrub, restores the playhead to its starting time.
Problem: with a transition selected, Effect Controls showed only its
settings. Premiere puts the transition's own timeline beside them (clip
A, clip B and the transition over their cut), where it can be slid
over the cut or resized by dragging; FilmCraft could do that only in the
Timeline.
Fix: right of the settings (the clip view's divider and width), a time
ruler over the cut, clip A above, the transition between, clip B below,
the cut and the playhead. Dragging the transition's middle slides it,
dragging an end changes its duration from that end (the Timeline's
rules, transitions::drag_span), measured against the view the drag began
in; each drag is one undoable sequence.setTransition. The ruler moves the
playhead. Every part has an automation id; no new UI strings.
