AGENTS.md (and CLAUDE.md where present) gets a CI workflows section: workflows only call
craft-common-actions at @main, with no other jobs; feature and fix PRs don't touch CI and
link or open a craft-common-actions issue (a PR only for a small fix that is safe for
every app and does not increase CI time); legacy jobs
aren't added to and move only as their own task, staying until a shared workflow runs them.
windows-arm64.yml moves from its SHA pin to @main. The pinned revision is on
craft-common-actions main and the workflow (and the actions it calls) is identical
there, so nothing changes in behaviour.
* Use chrono for UTC/calendar conversion instead of hand-rolled copies
Replaces the hand-rolled civil_from_days / days_from_civil copies (app log
timestamp, Media Browser date column, auto-save file-name stamp, MXF header
timestamp, golden-image attribution date) with chrono as a workspace
dependency. The existing chrono entry on apps/filmcraft (clock feature) was
lifted to the workspace. Output formats are unchanged and pinned by tests.
AGENTS.md now says time goes through chrono.
Follow-up to storytold/cadcraft#1785
* Never panic on a clock outside chrono's range; keep 5-digit years unprefixed
chrono's From<SystemTime> unwraps internally, so a clock past year 262143
panicked. logging::timestamp and golden::today now read the duration since the
epoch and go through the fallible DateTime::from_timestamp, reading an
out-of-range or pre-epoch clock as the epoch as the old saturating code did.
timestamp, today and media_browser::format_date write the year with {:04}
rather than %Y, which prefixes a '+' past year 9999.
Tests cover the far-future and year-10000 cases for timestamp and format_date.
* Don't build an unrepresentable SystemTime in the far-future test
UNIX_EPOCH + Duration::from_secs(u64::MAX / 2) overflows Windows'
SystemTime and panicked before timestamp() ran, failing the Windows
test job. Build it with checked_add and only assert where it exists.
* time: preserve out-of-range years instead of the epoch (FredApps review)
`DateTime::from_timestamp(..).unwrap_or_default()` changed the existing output:
inputs the old hand-rolled civil-from-days converted (e.g. `10_000_000_000_000`
s → 318857-05-20 17:46:40) collapsed to `1970-01-01 00:00:00`. Restore the old
conversion domain with a cycle-based helper: reduce by whole 400-year Gregorian
cycles (146_097 days), convert the in-range remainder with chrono, and carry the
year back as i128 (saturating to the output type). Only the year leaves chrono's
range; month, day and time of day are always exact.
Sites (all UTC):
- apps/filmcraft logging.rs `timestamp` (SystemTime, u64 secs): pre-1970 still
clamps to the epoch; a far-future clock keeps its year. u64::MAX/2 s →
"292277026596-12-04T15:30:07.000Z", 10e12 s → "318857-05-20T17:46:40.000Z"
(was "1970-01-01..."). SystemTime cases built with a checked add (Windows-safe).
- crates/engine media_browser.rs `format_date` (u64): 10e12 s → "318857-05-20
17:46", u64::MAX → "584554051223-11-09 07:00" (was "1970-01-01 00:00").
- crates/format autosave.rs `civil` (i64 + i32 offset): keeps years, e.g.
i64::MAX → 292277026596-12-04 15:30:07, i64::MIN → -292277022657-01-27. The
separate `unix + offset_secs` overflow guard (checked_add) is kept: only an
overflowing shift (old code wrapped it to garbage) reads as the epoch.
- crates/mxf from_unix (i64): keeps month/day/time, clamps only `year` to the
u16 field as before. 10e12 s → year 65535, May 20 17:46:40; -10e12 s → year 0,
Aug 13 06:13:20.
- crates/testkit golden.rs `today` (u64): same helper; pinned via `utc_parts`.
chrono stays the only calendar logic (NaiveDate::from_num_days_from_ce_opt on the
in-cycle remainder). No new chrono features; still default-features = false, std.
* Name the 400-year range extension as the one exception to the time rule
The rule said never to hand-roll calendar math, but the range fix
(shifting by whole 400-year Gregorian cycles so dates past chrono's year
range keep their old output) is cycle arithmetic, so the rule and the code
disagreed. The rule now names that exception: the library still computes
month, day and time, and only whole cycles are carried in the year.
* Say the library computes month and day; time-of-day is plain arithmetic
Narrows the range-extension wording: the date library computes the
calendar fields, and splitting seconds into hours, minutes and seconds
is ordinary arithmetic, which is what the code does.
Reject repeated source IDs before moving items, and normalize selection-derived plans so nudges and drags edit each selected identity once. Keep new-track intent per copy entry so repeated sources retain their requested destinations.
Cover failed-move history preservation, corrected retry, repeated-copy destinations, and Frame Hold followed by dragging.

Adds a second Linux decoder backend, crates/platform/src/nvdec, that talks to
NVIDIA's driver directly (libnvcuvid + the CUDA driver, both loaded at run
time). It is registered in front of VA-API: what NVDEC declines still reaches
VA-API, then the software decoders. H.264 8-bit and HEVC 8/10-bit, 4:2:0
progressive.
NVIDIA's parser takes Annex B access units, so there is no host-side DPB.
Pictures are read back as NV12 / P016 through the existing biplanar path and
are bit-exact with the software decoders. The CUDA context is the one
nvenc::device already retains; it gains push/pop and copy-to-host. A seek
recreates the parser and keeps the decoder.
Also fixes tests/setting.rs, which expected the Media Foundation backend name
on Linux, and updates the Hardware decoding tooltip and its Spanish row.

Stateless VA-API decoding with FilmCraft's own H.264 host side: the
software decoder's SPS/PPS/slice-header parsers and its DPB (now generic
over the picture type in filmcraft-h264) drive the GPU, so reference
marking, reference lists and output order are shared and the pictures are
bit-exact with the software decoder. libva is loaded at run time; no libva
or driver means software decoding as before. frame_num gaps (open-GOP
seeks) get the software decoder's stand-in frames. HybridDecoder keeps the
transparent software fallback.
Tests: hardware parity on 7 H.264 streams incl. 1080p/2160p, seeks,
flushes, forced failures, fuzzing, concurrency; front end against a
recording stand-in on every OS; ABI checks against va.h. Docs: platform
README, ADR 0001 addendum, architecture, performance (H.264 2160p CPU per
frame 417 -> 11 ms on Iris Xe), roadmap.

* About: contributors compiled in from contributors.json (grab bag + table, sortable, name toggle)
Help ▸ About FilmCraft gets tabs About · Contributors · Models, following the craftrules standard
(standards/contributors.md): contributors/contributors.json is generated by
craftrules/scripts/contributors.py and baked into the binary by crates/ui-egui/build.rs as static
tables (nothing read at run time; the web build has them too). Each contributor line: @username,
opt-in display/real name, PRs, commits, lines +/−/Δ, binary assets +/−, first/last commit.
Sortable by every column; alphabetical ignores case and the leading @. Tabs and credits controls
register automation ids (about.tab.*, about.credits.*).

The merged Japanese interface (#38) looked only for a system font. When
FilmCraft is built with craft-fonts, theme::install already appends the
Japanese faces to every font family, so switching to Japanese uses them
(no system scan) and works on the web too; otherwise it falls back to an
installed system font as before. Docs use an absolute CRAFT_FONTS_DIR
(build.rs runs in crates/text, so a relative path resolves from there).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
crates/text/build.rs embeds the fonts of a storytold/craft-fonts checkout
named by CRAFT_FONTS_DIR as filmcraft_text::fonts::CRAFT_FONTS (native:
all of them; wasm32: only BIZ UDPGothic Regular). Unset, CRAFT_FONTS is
empty and nothing changes. A bad CRAFT_FONTS_DIR is a warning, or an
error with CRAFT_FONTS_REQUIRED=1. Never a Cargo dependency, no network.
- UI: the Japanese faces are the last fallback of every egui font family
(BIZ UDPGothic first, Bold first in the semibold/medium families).
- Text engine: registered after the bundled faces; fallback_for picks
them after the bundled faces and before system faces (Mincho for serif
text, Gothic otherwise, nearest weight).
- Tests: Japanese glyphs (no tofu) in the UI and title paths, skipped
without craft-fonts; the theme works with CRAFT_FONTS empty.
- Release: every build job checks out craft-fonts at a pinned commit and
builds with CRAFT_FONTS_DIR + CRAFT_FONTS_REQUIRED; packages carry
OFL-<family>.txt. NOTICE, ATTRIBUTION.md (optional build input), AGENTS.md,
CLAUDE.md, README and docs/contributing.md describe it.
FilmCraft main bundles no Japanese font, so no font files move.

- New crates/platform (filmcraft-platform, L5): OS media FFI only. The one
crate allowed `unsafe` (own [lints] with unsafe_code = "deny",
#[allow(unsafe_code)] only on the videotoolbox module, SAFETY comment on
every block, safe Result-returning public API). AGENTS.md §0.3 names the
exception; docs/adr/0001-platform-ffi.md records why and the rules.
- VideoToolbox decoder for avcC / hvcC, 8/10-bit 4:2:0 and 4:2:2: session from
the sample entry's parameter sets with hardware required, asynchronous
decode (2 in flight), biplanar CVPixelBuffer copied to planar Yuv8/Yuv16,
reorder buffer of the stream's own depth, RASL skipped after a starting CRA.
Output callback under catch_unwind.
- HybridDecoder: transparent mid-stream fallback to the software decoder
(replays samples since the last restart point, drops already-returned
pictures). New codecs::software_video_decoder (built-in factories only) and
codecs::hw (switch, counters, NalStreamInfo shared with software decoders;
vui_color / sar_par helpers now used by both).
- Settings ▸ Playback ▸ Hardware decoding: Auto / Off (engine applies it to
the codecs switch); desktop app, CLI/MCP and bench call register().
- perf.stats decode.framesDecoded and decode.hardware counters.
- Tests: bit-exact parity with the software decoders (H.264 High, HEVC Main
open GOP, Main 10; resets, reseeks, flushes), forced-failure fallback,
mutation fuzz of samples and parameter sets, cross-platform fallback with a
stand-in decoder, setting Off, HEVC 4:2:2 vs ffmpeg.
- Bench --hw auto|off; results in docs/performance.md (4K CPU/frame
~86-119 ms -> ~4 ms).

- AGENTS.md: a new §0 "Never crash" at the top of the rules (why, outranks feature work, the bans,
Result/? patterns, hostile input numbers, bounded recursion, lock poisoning, the last-resort
guard, a regression test per crash fix), linking craftrules/standards/never-crash.md. §3.1 now
points to it.
- CLAUDE.md non-negotiables, CONTRIBUTING.md and docs/contributing.md: short Never crash notes
pointing to AGENTS.md §0.
- clippy.toml: allow unwrap/expect/panic/indexing in tests, so crates can deny the panicking lints
in production code without touching their tests.
- [workspace.lints.rust] unsafe_code = "forbid" (no unsafe or allow(unsafe_code) in the workspace).
