A Windows clone that rewrites them changes what the compiler, the hygiene scan and every fixture comparison read, and the hygiene scan counts lines by splitting on "\n". .gitattributes beats core.autocrlf and travels with the repository, so it settles this for a local clone and not only for CI. No tracked file has a carriage return today, so nothing is renormalized by adding it.
