    • Performance Monitor: RAM and CPU now show on Windows (they were n/a). Pick the refresh rate it judges frames against in Settings > Performance: 30 to 360 Hz, 60 by default.
    • Design tab: the lint and open-feedback scan are kept until the document changes, so a large page no longer drops frames while the tab is open.
    • Windows and Linux: window buttons in the toolbar; controls and acrylic from craft-ui.

    Windows build (x86_64): papercraft-0.8.1-windows-x86_64.zip has papercraft.exe, papercraft-cli.exe, papercraft-mcp.exe and papercraft-relay.exe.

    PaperCraft 0.8.0

    Screens

    • Declare a frame as a screen or an overlay (drawer, modal, sheet): set_screens, inspector toggles, or Declare N screens on the page.
    • Agent edits to layers hidden behind an overlay or opaque layer in their screen are refused (pass allowHidden to edit on purpose); partly covered layers are reported with their visible share.
    • get_basic_info lists screens, get_node_info reports a layer's visibility, lint_design skips hidden layers, On click lists screens, nested screens get canvas labels.

    Smaller, faster projects

    • Pages and saved versions are stored as zstd-compressed JSON (.json.zst, project format 3): a 68 MB project becomes 1.3 MB and loads faster. Old .json pages still read and are converted on save. Older builds can't open converted projects.

    Canvas performance

    • Per-layer change log: edits re-tessellate only the layers they touched, and the cache keeps no copy of the document (about 100 MB less RAM on a 42k-layer project).
    • Zoom settles before re-tessellating, tiny layers are skipped, smaller vertices, vsync-paced redraws, no redraw on idle pointer moves, freed memory returned when idle.
    • Panning large pages: off-screen frame labels and layer-panel measurements no longer run every frame (~9 ms → ~0.7 ms per frame).

    UI

    • Frame labels: hidden on tiny frames, no overlapping pile, ellipsis for long names.
    • Dropdowns size to their content, keep the name of A / B / Name options, scroll, and show full names on hover.
    • Settings: Performance page (FPS, frame time, RAM, CPU, GPU, optional overlay, slow-frame badge); agent logos; Chat page fix.
    • Also in this release: component properties and the properties modal, merge_variants, set_prototype_links, scrolling screens, follow agents, skeletons, fixes #14–#22 (see PROGRESS.md).

    PaperCraft 0.7.3

    QA Sub-Agent & Helper Agents

    • QA Sub-Agent: Claude Code chats now include a Sonnet qa agent that lints and screenshots built frames, returning only findings to keep screenshots out of the main chat context.
    • Helper Agents (src/mcp/delegate.rs, Settings, Chat, Helper): delegate hands qa,
ead or uild tasks to a cheaper agent CLI (pi with MiniMax M3.1 Flash, opencode, an Ollama-backed agent, or any command taking {prompt}). Drives PaperCraft via papercraft-cli off the UI thread with the last 6,000 characters returned.

Dev Config Isolation & Overflow Improvements

    • PAPERCRAFT_HOME isolates chat settings ($PAPERCRAFT_HOME/.config), preventing test copies from modifying installed app configurations.
    • Composer chips wrap dynamically instead of running under Stop and Add buttons.
    • Agent pill drops text when running under top bar right-side action buttons.
    • The Present button now features a play icon aligned with neighboring buttons.

    Auto Mode & Mid-Turn Steer

    • Auto mode (composer Auto chip): Automatically selects and submits the recommended option when turns end on sk_user questions until stopped or turn budget is reached.
    • Mid-turn message queuing (src/mcp/steer.rs): Queues Add / Enter messages while a turn is active, riding on the agent's next PaperCraft tool response with status indicators (Waiting / Seen).

    Fixes

    • #10: move_nodes to another page preserves main component keys and relinks instances; added
      ename_file to rename projects.
    • #11: Swapped nested instances persist as swap overrides (InstanceLink.swap), preserving component identity across outer component updates and copies.
    • #12: move_nodes across pages transfers associated annotations; detached notes resolve cleanly as Detached #n.
    • #13: get_computed_styles correctly reports text colors bound to variables as ar(--name).
    • Windows compatibility: Cross-platform shell invocation fixes for delegated helpers and custom image generation commands.

    PaperCraft 0.7.2

    • Code links: a main component carries its library import and React and egui usage templates (set_code_link). Linked instances export as library code (<Button variant="outline">Use SSO</Button>, ui.button("Continue")) with imports gathered once; the AI spec lists them as Library Components instead of describing their layers.
    • UI kits (apply_ui_kit): shadcn/ui, Ant Design, React Bits and egui, each with Light and Dark variables, tokens and linked components. The chat brief asks which code library you use and builds from its kit.
    • Issues from the app: the agent drafts an issue when PaperCraft gets in its way (you press Send or Discard), plus a Report a PaperCraft issue form in the chat menu. Filed on the repository set in Settings, Updates, Issues (keychain token, else your tea login), de-duplicated by title.
    • design-playbook: with the playbook CLI installed, the brief asks whether to follow the playbook and the agent looks rules up with design_rules, citing rule ids.
    • Top bar: project name and page picker on one centred row; the bar no longer covers the canvas.

macOS (Apple silicon): the DMG and the CLI zip (papercraft-cli, papercraft-mcp).

    Fixed

    • Renaming a project on the home screen could not be finished: Enter, Escape and clicking away did nothing. The same applied to renaming library assets and versions. All three work again: Enter saves, Escape cancels.

    Notes

    • macOS (Apple silicon): papercraft-0.7.1-macos-aarch64.dmg, papercraft-cli-0.7.1-macos-aarch64.zip (ad-hoc signed, not notarized).
    • Linux x86_64 builds will be added to this release separately.
    • Everything else is as in v0.7.0.

    Images in chat

    • Paste an image (Cmd/Ctrl+V) straight into the chat, or drop or attach one. The composer and sent messages show thumbnails; click one for a full-size lightbox. A message can be just an image.
    • Attachments are sent at most 1568 px (about a third of the tokens); the original is kept, and the agent can zoom into any region of it at full resolution.

    Brief, research and art

    • Question cards: the agent asks with clickable answers: frame size, density, palettes as swatches, references as image tiles, the recommended answer marked. Before a first design it asks for a short brief instead of guessing.
    • Web research (the composer's Web chip): the agent finds reference screenshots of real products and shows them in a gallery; the ones it did not keep are dimmed. On Claude Code a Haiku sub-agent does the searching, so research costs cents.
    • Image generation, off until you turn it on (Settings → Chat → Images): Codex on your ChatGPT plan (offered once when found), Google Flow through gf, or any command of your own.
    • Plugins (Settings → Plugins): Avataaars, DiceBear, Iconify (about 200,000 icons), Lorem Picsum, Flags and QR codes, placed in a design as editable vector layers or images. SVG import now draws masked shapes correctly.

    Fewer tokens

    • Lean Claude Code sessions (about half the fixed prompt), tool schemas loaded on demand and old tool results cleared on the API.
    • Long chats start a fresh agent session with a recap past 120k tokens, or when you click the context meter; the canvas keeps the work.
    • The meter knows the 1M window; each turn shows its own cost (Claude Code reported the session's running total) and the header shows the chat's total. A per-turn budget stops a runaway turn (Settings → Chat).
    • Model and effort pickers for Claude Code; the agent reuses components as instances instead of rewriting their markup.

    Also

    • Switch pages from the Chat top bar. Steps stay folded while a turn runs (no more flicker). lint_design asks 24 px targets on desktop screens (44 px on touch). The installer keeps papercraft-mcp current.

    Chat: any agent

    • Agents are found like your terminal finds them. PaperCraft reads your login shell's PATH, so claude, codex and Homebrew-installed CLIs are detected even when the app is opened from the Dock.
    • Agent Client Protocol (ACP): one generic backend for agents that speak ACP: OpenCode, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Hermes, Kimi, Devin and more, plus npx-launched ones you enable once (Qwen Code, Kilo, Cline, Auggie, Copilot CLI, Pi via pi-acp). Add any other as a custom agent (command + args). Claude Code and Codex keep their direct backends.
    • New agent panel (search, Detected / Enable via npx / Not found / API endpoints / Custom) and a rebuilt Settings → Chat (aligned grid, per-agent path and args, hide from picker, endpoints, defaults). No install instructions; a missing agent links to its own docs.
    • A sign-in card when an agent needs you to log in (e.g. cursor-agent login).
    • Several @ selections per message, each removable; selected layers' annotations go along as context.
    • Fixed: Send could do nothing when the CLI path was set in Settings.
    • Safer: only announced, non-destructive PaperCraft tools are auto-approved for ACP agents; Stop always ends within 3 s.

    Annotations

    • Numbered notes with leader lines that explain a design: business rules, behaviour, content, data, accessibility, dev notes. The category sets the icon and colour.
    • Templates choose which kinds a project uses (Product spec, Dev handoff, Accessibility review, Content review, Minimal, or your own); a page can override the project default. Customize categories, guidance and fields.
    • Annotate tool (N), side view, inspector section, Annotate with AI (fills the chat), view modes full / badges / hidden (⌘⇧A). Never shown in Present mode or exports.
    • For agents: one batched annotate call, compact get_annotations, get_/set_annotation_template; notes appear in get_design_spec / get_jsx and in agent-run review and revert.

    Notes

    • Verified on macOS with OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex (artboard created), Cursor (sign-in card), MiniMax and Ollama Cloud endpoints. Gemini CLI's server currently refuses ACP clients ("migrate to Antigravity").
    • macOS (Apple silicon): papercraft-0.6.1-macos-aarch64.dmg, papercraft-cli-0.6.1-macos-aarch64.zip (ad-hoc signed, not notarized).
    • Linux x86_64: papercraft-0.6.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, papercraft-cli-0.6.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz (glibc 2.36+, libssl3, libdbus-1-3). The CLI is smoke-tested on Debian; the GUI has not been run on a Linux desktop.
